The Last Battle

This oil painting was commissioned by Keith Frobisher, (a collateral descendant of Sir Martyn Frobisher, one of Drake’s captains during the rout of the Armada. – He also helped in discovering the Northwest Passage).

Started in late 2007, it proved to be one of the most challenging commissions to date, involving a great deal of research into sixteenth century sailing vessels and Spanish Forts. It was also important to get the correct geography of the Crozon Peninsula near Brest, where Martyn suffered his fatal wound but nevertheless managed to assist in capturing the Spanish fort with the aid of a French land army.
